Darlene J. Latta, LCSW
Darlene is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Active in the LGBT community for more than 25 years, Darlene has played an instrumental role in many of the pioneering efforts to build a more positive, healthier, and happier LGBT community in the DC area.
She was a founding member of the H.O.P.E. Foundation and served on the Board of Directors. She established the Lesbian Care Foundation at the Whitman Walker Clinic. She developed and facilitated bereavement groups for the Mautner Project, the National Lesbian Health Organization. In addition, she also established the Virginia Institute of Therapeutic Services.
Darlene is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania and the Howard University.. The preliminary work on her PhD in Clinical Mental Health/Social Work focused on the level of commitment of non-biological lesbian co-parents.
Her proudest accomplishment is becoming the adoptive mother of her two sons, Jacob and Aaron. She was the first person in the State of Maryland to be granted second parent adoption of children who were conceived through artificial insemination by an unknown donor. This year Jacob entered high school and her Aaron will be celebrating his bar mitzvah.
Darlene is an avid collector of antique coin-operated penny machines and vintage Judaica. She lives with her partner of 11 years, Kathy Brennan.
